Abstract

"This study offers a semiotic analysis of the portrayal of Muslim immigrants in French cinema, employing semiotic theory as a tool for examination. Through an exploration of the film 'The Prophet,' the analysis reveals how cinema depicts the Arab immigrant community in a manner that diverges from reality, echoing broader trends observed in media representation. Through this investigation, we seek to dissect and understand this portrayal by semiotically dissecting the key sociological frameworks utilized by the film in addressing immigrant issues, particularly those concerning Arabs and Muslims. This study focuses on analyzing and comprehending the constructed image of this demographic as portrayed in Western societies at large."
