Abstract

Prevention is a health action that generally aims to avoid or aggravate diseases. Professionals in the field of mental health (psychologists and psychiatrists) also adopt this frame of reference in their practices. As a result, the work of the public health clinical psychologist is limited solely to curative services. From this we wondered about the reasons why prevention has become a second priority, which has made psychologists less efficient at this level?

In this article, we have tried to determine the practical elements of the preventive role that the clinical psychologist can assume, his objectives to consider as well as his practical methods to achieve them. These modalities are (among others): Health education, information, development of the living environment, early diagnosis, short remedies, aftercare follow-up and support.
